There is a fantastic opportunity for a senior analytical biochemist to work for an innovative, world leading engineering biology company based just outside Edinburgh. The candidate must be self-motivated, enthusiastic and passionate about science. It is essential the candidate demonstrates evidence of interdisciplinary team skills and is able to work collaboratively with others to achieve project deadlines. The candidate should be flexible, proactive and have the ability to multi-task effectively to meet the demands of different work activities. Good communication and presentation skills are necessary with a willingness to learn.

This position will be based at our bespokefacilities at the Roslin Innovation Centre where there are regular bus links to the City Centre, free on-site parking, an on-site gym and several on-site cafes – the perfect setting to meet colleagues over a coffee in view of the Pentland Hills.
Skills/Experience
The candidate will have:
- A PhD/Masters in Analytical Chemistry/Chemistry/Biochemistry (or related field) or an equivalent graduate degree with relevant industrial experience.
- Excellent technical knowledge and experience in working with analytical instrumentation such as high resolution LC-MS (e.g. Q-TOF-MS).
- Proven expertise in developing and implementing MS based analytical workflows for characterisation of both small molecules and macromolecules (intact MS and/or peptide mapping) using Agilent software such as MassHunter and BioConfirm
- Excellent attention to detail and a critical eye to interpret and rigorously QC analytical data
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral) for both internal project teams and external customers/companies
- Confidence in maintenance and troubleshooting analytical instrumentation
- Experience leading and managing of projects to ensure deliverables, milestones and goals are achieved.
- Experience in writing and contributing to project proposals to secure new business or funding opportunities
- Proven ability to independently generate new ideas and deliver innovative approaches to increase workplace productivity
- Proven ability to multi-task and work across several projects in parallel
- Experience in writing protocols, SOPs and reports and working within an industrial quality management framework
Desirable skills but not essential would be for example:
- Experience in development of biocatalysis processes for production of small molecule targets including downstream processing and product isolation
- Technical knowledge and experience in implementing, developing and optimising biochemical assays
- Good knowledge of molecular biology, microbiology and fermentation
